About Yerevan Modern Art Museum

The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan was established in 1972 by renowned art critic Henrik Igityan, who led the museum for 37 years and played a key role in shaping its vision. The foundation of the museum was made possible with the strong support of then-mayor Grigor Hasratyan and prominent Armenian artists of the 1960s. As a specialized museum of contemporary and modern art, it became the first of its kind in the Soviet Union, and for over two decades remained a unique cultural center in the region. The museum quickly gained recognition as a must-visit destination for both tourists and official guests of Yerevan. Its first exhibition featured works generously donated by leading Armenian artists from both the homeland and the diaspora.
